The National Salvation Front in Tunisia announced, on Wednesday, its boycott of the legislative elections scheduled for next December, describing the body supervising them as “impartial.”
The head of the front, Ahmed Najib Chebbi, said in a press conference in the capital, Tunis: “The elections will be under the supervision of a body that turned out to be not impartial, but rather loyal to the authority that installed it and tampered with documents, the results during the referendum, and it cannot gain the confidence of Tunisians.”
Chebbi considered that “the participation will be decorative (formal), and the Tunisian people have tried that before.”
He added: “For all these reasons, the National Salvation Front decided not to engage in this revolutionary series and to resist its institutions.”
He explained that the National Salvation Front with organizing early transparent elections according to the 2014 constitution under the supervision of an independent supreme authority for elections enjoys the confidence of all. “We extend our hands to all national forces to agree on a national salvation government that will take charge of confronting the social crisis,” Chebbi said.
On May 31, Chebbi announced the formation of a front called “National Salvation”, which was joined by 5 parties: “Ennahda”, “Qalb Tounes”, “Dignity Coalition”, “Hrak Tunis al-Irada”, and “Amal”. In addition to the “Citizens Against the Coup” campaign, and a number of parliamentarians.
